THE WENA INNOVATIVE FARMING TRAINING & WORKSHOP ( WIFT II)

Key Objectives

  • To introduce farmers to  alternative  farming  practices  away  from  conventional agricultural trend and practices. 

  • To shift farmers towards more environmentally safe practices, such as enforcing effective waste water management, water preservation and management, vertical farming, green house  farming.

  • Highlight  new  technologies  for  irrigation  and  ways agribusiness can increase capacity in food production through irrigation systems and local manifestations of wider change processes in agribusiness. 

  • Address problems in their business strategies, arguably to start thinking about transitioning toward more sustainable practices in agribusiness using technology innovative solutions. 

  • This  training  is  aimed  at  developing  the  capacity  of  participants  to  practice  modern techniques of farming that has potentials for both subsistence and wealth creation

The  workshop  will  feature  two  weeks  (Mondays-Saturdays)  of  in-depth  training  courses  with experienced facilitators across the agribusiness value chain in the following areas: 

▪ Introduction to greenhouse farming, hydroponics, and nursery farming systems 

▪ Sourcing materials and inputs for the systems 

▪ Setting up the 3 different systems 

▪ Backyard garden with irrigation 

▪ Daily routines and system management 

▪ Good Agricultural practices (GAP) 

▪ Nutrient requirements 

▪ Using fish water as nutrient

▪Hands-on practical on seeding in the nursery and garden, transplanting in the greenhouse, DWC, and garden. 
▪Excursion to a nursery farm. 
▪Choosing the best medium for growing crops 
▪Creating your farm timetable for year-round production 
▪Understanding the market for exotic vegetables. 
▪Harvest, Packaging, value addition, and marketing of produce 
▪Hands-on Practical on trellising, pollination, harvest, and packaging 
▪Excursion to Almat farms and other farms with a hydroponics system 
▪Presentations and Graduation 
▪Bonus *SOPs for Greenhouse, hydroponics, and nursery farms.

WIFT STREAM II will take a more flexible approach. Participants can either register to participate on weekdays or weekends.


Weekday Classes will run for 1 week: 15th - 19th of May 

Weekend Classes will run for 2 weeks: 12th - 20th of May

Training Format

HYBRID (VIRTUAL & IN-PERSON)

Training for WIFT STREAM II will take a hybrid format. Classes will be a mixture of in-person teaching and online teaching.
